Lives and Investments are Safeguarded by ITS G5 Seamless Evolution

2019 Day 1 deployments started in Europe based on ETSI ITS G5. The cooperative V2X functions are expected to assist improving road safety towards accident free traffic (vision zero), enhancing road capacity, reducing harmful emission to the environment (green deal), supporting successive automation on roads and by that are enabler for further disruptive changes of mobility in future. Investing vehicle manufacturers and road operators see clear advantages in the seamless evolution principle of…

C‐ITS deployment takes off, increasing road safety and decreasing congestion

Standardised C‐ITS services addressing all modes of transport are key to addressing increased road traffic congestion and to reduce road fatalities, for which the European Union has set challenging reduction targets.

C-ITS deployment in Europe has started and will be continued

The CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium has been working since 2002 for harmonised services and system requirements to ensure a compatible and interoperable framework for improving safety on European roads and beyond. Serial deployment of C-ITS in Europe has started on roads and vehicles and will be continued even though proposed Delegated Act on C-ITS will not enter into force.

Delegated Act – a great step towards road safety & automation

C2C-CC welcomes the EC efforts to save lives and moving ahead with setting up a clear, future-proof regulatory framework through the delegated regulation on C-ITS, which is critical for the continuation of ITS-G5 deployment. ITS-G5 is a short-range direct ad hoc wireless technology used for increasing road traffic safety and it is a complement to network-based cellular technology (e.g., 3G/4G/5G). We strongly believe that the hybrid approach taken by EC is a necessity for launching connected and…

Support to the EC ’s Delegated Regulation setting the framework for C-ITS deployment

The CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium has been working since 2002 for harmonised services and system requirements to ensure a European compatible and interoperable framework. The benefit of such a framework for road safety has been proven in multiple research projects, e.g. in simTD, where it was shown that an interoperable C-ITS based warning system can reduce intersection collisions by more than 50 %. The Consortium therefore fully supports the initiative of the European Commission to improve…

Launch of DSRC Technology to Connect Vehicles and Infrastructure in the U.S.

In a press release, the CAR 2 CAR member Toyota has recently announced to begin deploying 5.9GHz Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) in Toyota and Lexus branded vehicles in the USA starting in 2021. At the same time, Toyota encourages all automakers to adopt DSRC in the USA. The CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium very much appreciates this initiative as it makes use of a hardware platform for C-ITS in Europe and USA.

C2C-CC welcomes IEEE802.11 study group on Next Generation Vehicular

IEEE has setup a new Study Group in IEEE802.11 on Next Generation Vehicular (SG NGV). The CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium supports a backward compatible evolution of the V2X communication. The Consortium sees this initiative as a strengthening of the international cooperation that aims on harmonisation of a common hardware platform for C-ITS – not only for the initial deployment, but also in the long term. This platform for C-ITS ad-hoc communication is based on IEEE 802.11p, in Europe known…

Functional Safety Group established – enabling ITS-G5 support of cooperative automated driving

Initial deployment of wireless Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication based on the ETSI ITS-G5 standard (IEEE 802.11p) will start next year in Europe. For enabling next innovations towards cooperative automated driving, the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium has established a dedicated working group on functional safety in December 2017. During the CAR 2 CAR Week in March 2018 the new functional safety group aligns its work programme with the other technical…
